My Mom's tips on how to watch your weight...

Today officially marks the end of the first half of 2021.

During this time of the year, I always think about where I am in my fitness goals.

(Read through the article I wrote about “Starting a Healthy Habit” if you are looking for some tips.)

As I was doing my weekend decluttering, I came across this old news article where my Mom was featured. Though this was published way back 1974, most of what was there still remain true and applicable today - even after 46 years.

Since I started running in 2012, I've been a little bit more conscious about my overall fitness - my physical activity and sometimes, the food I eat. For most people who know me well, they know how much I love to eat, and that I nibble every now and then because I am always hungry. I love dining out and trying different kinds of food. Going back to what I was writing about which is my Mom's article (haha), it made me realize that as I turn 40 in July I need to be more conscious about my health. This means that apart from striving to consistently be active, I need to make an extra effort to watch my weight not just through regular physical activity but by also choosing the appropriate amount and the right kind of food to eat (or perhaps even starting to count calories).

Last week, we had a Health and Fitness webinar at work and I learned about how to read food labels, knowing your BMI, the importance of physical activity etc. more like the detailed and today's version of what my mom shared in the article which was written half a century ago, “One must understand his nutritional needs before attempting to lose weight. Minimizing one's food intake and exercising regularly are still the best ways of losing weight.

In the seven tips she mentioned in the article, I agree with them, most especially tip number 4 !!! My day is ruined and I am not as productive as how I expect myself to be if I don't follow this tip.

Read through my Mom's feature published in Bulletin Today (November 10, 1974); an article written by Deedee M. Siytangco:

Thank you Mommy for always ensuring that we have a healthy and balanced diet at home (and for teaching us the value of proper food preparation when cooking).

I hope my Mom's advice may be of help to you too. 😊

Catch you later!
